LICENSE INCREASE FIRST SINCE 2004

For the first time in a decade, Tennessee resident and non-resident hunting and fishing license fees are increasing. The Tennessee Fish and Wildlife Commission approved the new structure at its January meeting, after more than three years of budget analysis and adjustments.

Over the last decade, the cost of everything from fuel to fertilizer has increased dramatically, while income from license sales and federal reimbursements have not. Please take a minute to review some cost comparisons from 2004 to 2014 here, as well as a snapshot of some of our state’s most important wildlife and fisheries success stories here.

HOW YOUR WILDLIFE AGENCY IS FUNDED

Your wildlife and fisheries management agency is funded by the sale of hunting and fishing licenses and federal excise taxes on related equipment; TWRA does not receive funding from the state. An explanation of the various structures and funding sources of surrounding states’ agencies—as well as a comparison of license costs in those states—can be found here.

More details on the new license structure, which is scheduled to go into effect July 1, can be found here.
